Physician-reviewed patient informationOverview
Cardiovascular disease is a major health issue in women. Chest pressure remains important, but breathlessness, unusual fatigue, nausea, back discomfort or jaw symptoms may also occur.
Hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, smoking and obesity are central risk factors. A history of pre-eclampsia, gestational hypertension, gestational diabetes, preterm birth or early menopause also informs long-term risk assessment.
Prevention combines blood pressure and lipid control, physical activity, nutrition, smoking cessation and individual treatment when indicated.
