LEARN AND PREVENT

Assess Risk Before Disease Becomes Symptomatic

Cardiovascular assessment combines symptoms, blood pressure, glucose, lipids, smoking, family history and previous disease. The purpose is to identify modifiable risk and select tests that may change management.

A check-up does not guarantee prevention of a heart attack or stroke and should not be used to delay assessment of active symptoms.

How Is the Assessment Level Selected?

Age, symptoms, previous disease, family history and total risk determine whether a basic review or more detailed assessment is reasonable. Unnecessary testing should be avoided.
